$2,500 reward offered in dog cruelty case

The Yuma Sun printed the following article on June 7, 2007

A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the torture and killing of a dog near Somerton last week.

The body of the tan, female shepherd mix was found with baling wire around its neck on a canal bank at County 10-1/2 Street and Avenue G on Friday, the Humane Society of Yuma said.

The young dog, believed to have been a stray, had been sodomized with a crutch and was killed either that morning or the night before, the humane society said.

The reward money comes from local donors, said Elkie Wills, spokeswoman for the Humane Society of Yuma.

No new leads had turned up in the case as of Wednesday, she said. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cruelty case as a felony.

To report tips in the case, call the humane society at 782-1621, Ext. 106.
